Conference: “Nanomaterial-based biosensors for environmental monitoring” 14 July 2017

Conference: “Nanomaterial-based biosensors for environmental monitoring”

Following a stay that Professor Aziz Amin is doing in the research group “Instrumentation and Environmental Sciences” has devoted a few hours to offer a conference entitled “Nanomaterial based on biosensors for environmental monitoring” which has been the initiative of Our members José María Palacios Santander and Laura Cubillana Aguilera.

The conference was held in the room Prof. Lola Gordillo, in the decanato facilities of the Faculty of Sciences, where both researchers and students attended. F.Miguel Morales, director of IMEYMAT has taken the opportunity to welcome you as a member of the External Advisory Committee and thank you for being part of it. Here is an overview of prof. Aziz Amin by José María Palacios:

Prof. Amine started his scientific career in 1986, obtaining the degree of Engineer in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Free University of Brussels (Belgium). Later, in 1988, he finished the Master in Biotechnology and got the PhD in Sciences in 1993, at the same university. In 1994 he got two postdoctoral positions: one at University of Rome Tor Vergata and other at University of Lund. In 1995, he got an Associate Professor position in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environment at Hassan II University of Casablanca (Morocco), being Full Professor at this institution from 1999.

He has been Head of the abovementioned department for the period 1999-2004 as well. Besides, he is the Founder and Head of the research laboratory “Chemical Engineering and Environment” at Hassan II University of Casablanca (Morocco). Moreover, he has been involved in several research projects of national and international character (H2020 and NATO). It is noteworthy to mention his collaboration with some researchers of UCA, that started in 2011 with the project AP/038929/11: ‘Development of electrochemical (bio) sensors and their environmental applications’, funded by Spanish Agency for International Cooperation – Foreign Affairs Ministry of Spain. He is co-author of more than 120 papers in prestigious international scientific journals, most of them indexed in JCR, with more than 80 papers belonging to Q1 rank (h-index 35). The number of citations per year in the last 5 years is more than 300, what is a very valuable indicator about the quality of his scientific production. Nowadays, he is member of the External Committee of the Research Institute of Electron Microcospy and Materials (IMEYMAT) of University of Cadiz and is doing a one-month research stage at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, with the FQM-249 research group, funded by an UCA-International Post-
Doctoral Mobility Fellowship for Senior Researchers (UCA/R82REC/2016, de 14 de noviembre de 2016), within the project: ‘New materials and new strategies for designing inhibition biosensors’ (UCA responsible Dr. José María Palacios Santander).
