Last Friday, September 28, a new edition of European Researchers Night took place, this year it was celebrated in Plaza del Arenal and in Alcázar in Jerez de la Frontera. The European Researchers Night is a European scientific dissemination project promoted by the European Union within the Marie Sktodowska-Curie actions of the Horizon 2020 program. This open-access event takes place simultaneously in 350 cities in 30 countries.
In our province more than 75 activities were organized between workshops, micro-encounters, tastings and exhibitions, in which more than 400 researchers and a hundred volunteers participated. These activities are of very varied themes with the main objective of bringing Science to society, especially the young, in a playful and fun way. The IMEYMAT organized two workshops “Las diversas escalas de la materia” and “El mundo Nano, cómo funciona una impresora 3D: fabricando desde cero todo lo que puedas imaginar”, in addition, the Faculty of Sciences also organized the workshop “Diviértete con la Ciencia” focused on the little ones. Other activities of the European Night were: the workshops “Escape room CSI: UCA 2.0”, “Fenicios por un día”, “Planetario”, “Conociendo el mar que nos rodea”, “Tensión sin tensiones”; the micro-encounters “La sangre más rara del mundo y otras curiosidades escarlata”, “Un universo de algas”, “Divulgación del programa de observación de la Tierra: Copernicus”; or the scientific tastings “¿Altas o bajas?, ¿rubias o morenas?”, “Maridaje Tierra y Mar” and “Otros usos de la uva y el vino. Nuevos productos”, among many other activities.
There have been several institutions that have participated in the organization of this event, among them Fundación Descubre (Conserjería de Conocimiento, Investigación y Universidad de la Junta de Andalucía), CSIC and University of Cadiz. Different research institutes have collaborated from our University, ILA (Institute of Applied Linguistics), IVAGRO (Institute of Vitivinicultural and Agri-Food Research), INMAR (University Institute of Marine Research), IMEYMAT (Institute of Research on Electron Microscopy and Materials), INiBICA (Institute of Research and Innovation in Biomedical Sciences of the Province of Cadiz) and INDESS (University Institute of Research for Social Sustainable Development).
Thanks to these institutions, some 8,000 people could learn more about the activities that take place at the University of Cadiz and enjoy a night with Science. In the following link you can see more information about the event.
