Last Friday 27th of September took place a new edition of the European Night of Researchers, this year has been held in the Plaza de San Antonio in Cadiz. The European Researchers’ Night is a European project of scientific dissemination promoted by the European Union within the Marie Sktodowska-Curie actions of the Horizon 2020 programme. This event, with free access, takes place simultaneously in 350 cities in 30 countries.
In our province, more than 65 activities were organized, including workshops, microencounters, tastings and exhibitions, in which more than 400 researchers and a hundred volunteers participated. These activities have a wide range of themes and their main objective is to bring science closer to society, especially to young people, in a fun and entertaining way. IMEYMAT organized four workshops: “The different scales of matter”, “The Nanoworld”, “How a 3D printer works: making everything you can imagine from scratch” and “The magic of catalysis”. In addition, the Faculty of Sciences also organized the workshop “Have fun with Science” focused on children.
Several institutions have participated in the organization of this event including the Fundación Descubre, the Conserjería de Conocimiento, Investigación y Universidad de la Junta de Andalucía, the CSIC and the University of Cadiz. Different research institutes have collaborated from our University, ILA (Institute of Applied Linguistics), IVAGRO (Institute of Viticultural and Agrofood Research), INMAR (University Institute of Marine Research), IMEYMAT (University Institute of Research in Electronic Microscopy and Materials), INiBICA (Institute of Research and Innovation in Biomedical Sciences of the Province of Cadiz) and INDESS (University Institute of Research for Sustainable Social Development).
Thanks to these institutions, some 8,000 people were able to learn more about the activities taking place at the University of Cadiz and enjoy an evening with Science. More information about the event can be found at the following link.
