The Spanish Society of Materials (SOCIEMAT) recently published the awarding of the prizes awarded within the framework of the National Materials Congress. These awards are granted every two years in recognition of the work developed in the field of Materials Science and Technology. The categories and the winners this year have been the following:
Best Scientific Career, CNMAT 2018 Salamanca: Professor Javier Llorca.

FEI THERMO FISHER Awards Best Scientific Photography, CNMAT 2018 Salamanca: María Taeño “Microlaberintos”: Secondary electrons image of a NiO sample. By controlling the growth parameters such as time, temperature and flow of argon, structures can be designed on the nano- and micrometer scale with really amazing morphologies like the one shown in the image. This sample has been growing at 1200° C for 10 hours under a controlled flow of argon, using a vapor-solid method.
