Central research services in science and technology
The Central Services of the UCA offer both its own researchers and those from other institutions and companies a wide range of equipment, together with specialized technical staff, to study a very broad spectrum of scientific and technical problems. We highlight those most commonly used in IMEYMAT projects, most of which are led by UCA researchers who are part of our Institute.
It provides services related to the structural and chemical characterization of inorganic and biological materials to both the scientific and business communities. It has five microscopes, three of which have been one of the four national nodes of the ELECMI Facility since 2028.
Principal Investigator: José Juan Calvino Gámez; jose.calvino@uca.es
Meet the teams that are part of ELECMI:
It provides services for analyzing the surface composition and chemical states of the elements present on the surface of samples. The equipment allows for obtaining 2D composition maps and studying compositions in layers below the surface, as well as studying samples in atmospheres with gas pressures between 1 and 6 bar and at temperatures that can reach up to 1000°C.
Principal Investigator: Ginesa Blanco Montilla, ginesa.blanco@uca.es.
It features state-of-the-art, high-performance equipment, Kratos Axis Ultra DLD.
It has two X-ray diffraction devices for characterising materials and controlling the quality of crystalline and non-crystalline materials such as powdered samples, solids, nanoparticles and thin films, and two X-ray fluorescence devices for performing elemental analysis on powdered or solid samples.
Principal Investigator: Salvador Domínguez Bella, salvador.dominguez@uca.es.
It has several additive manufacturing equipment in polymer matrices, including large format machines. It is particularly suitable for the manufacture of complex parts and prototypes, applying Rapid-Prototyping techniques.
Principal Investigator: Sergio Ignacio Molina Rubio, sergio.molina@uca.es.
It has scientific instruments for atomic emission and mass detection analytical techniques, suitable for qualitative, semi-quantitative and quantitative analysis of elements from practically the entire periodic table. It can determine elements present in a wide range of concentrations (major, minor, trace, microtrace and ultramicrotrace), for both solid and liquid samples.
Principal Investigator: José Antonio López López, joseantonio.lopezlopez@uca.es.
It has a wide range of auxiliary equipment for preparing material samples for subsequent study using electron microscopes or optical microscopes.
Principal Investigator: Francisco Miguel Morales Sánchez, fmiguel.morales@uca.es.
