IMEYMAT (Institute for Research in Electron Microscopy and Materials at the University of Cadiz) is launching IMEYJOINT, a call for applications for 15 grants of €1,000 for final-year undergraduate and Master’s students at the University of Cadiz who wish to collaborate and become involved in ongoing R&D projects during the 2025-2026 academic year. At the IMEYMAT Institute (UCA), we are launching a pioneering project to bring materials science to the general public with the help of artificial intelligence. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN GETTING STARTED IN RESEARCH?

IMEYMAT offers students a variety of training opportunities related to its lines of research. To find out more, you can view the researchers’ activities on the Scientific Production Portal, where you will also find their email addresses. We encourage you to contact them, as they will be able to provide you with information on how to become a student collaborator.

GRADES. IMEYMAT members are involved in degree programmes in Chemistry, Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, and Engineering, teaching subjects such as Materials, Corrosion, and some Manufacturing Processes.

If you are completing your undergraduate studies, you will have the opportunity to carry out your Final Degree Project (TFG) under the supervision of an IMEYMAT researcher.

MASTER’S DEGREES. We also invite you to enrol in one of the Master’s degrees taught by the Institute’s faculty members and to develop a Master’s Thesis (TFM) related to IMEYMAT’s research.

COURSES AND OTHER EVENTS. IMEYMAT also organises courses, conferences, and other scientific events in which we invite you to participate: this is how you can take the first steps in your CV as a researcher.

PAID INTERNSHIPS AT THE INSTITUTE. The Institute also offers work placements to support its research services, contribute to the advancement of its lines of research, and disseminate its activities.

DOCTORATE. IMEYMAT is an excellent research centre for pursuing doctoral studies in any of the programmes linked to its research staff.

MASTER’S DEGREES IN WHICH IMEYMAT TEACHING STAFF PARTICIPATE

It is the one that, as a whole, best fits the content researched by IMEYMAT, as it offers a panoramic view of its research, from the fundamentals of nanoscience to the behaviour of materials in service. This master’s degree is open to students with a background in science or engineering related to Materials Science and Engineering who have successfully completed their undergraduate studies at other universities and in different countries of origin.

DOCTORAL PROGRAMMES RELATED TO IMEYMAT RESEARCH AREAS

The Doctoral Programme in Nanoscience and Materials Technology is a natural continuation for students of the master’s degree of the same name who wish to train as doctors. It has a large faculty from the University of Cadiz and a dozen foreign professors who reinforce the programme and contribute to its internationalisation.

IMEYMAT participates and collaborates in the organisation of courses, congresses, conferences, seminars and all kinds of scientific activities related to its fields of activity. In this way, it contributes to the training of new generations of materials scientists and technologists.

TEM-UCA. An international hallmark for the University of Cádiz and IMEYMAT. Every year since 2001, the UCA has held the TEM-UCA International Summer School on nanomaterial microscopy.

SEMICONDUCTOR CONFERENCES AT THE UCA.

From 16 to 20 June, the University of Cádiz hosted the WOCSDICE and EXMATEC International Conferences, which focused on the future of semiconductors.

AFM MICROSCOPY. State-of-the-art techniques in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Professor Manuel Domínguez, scientific director of the Atomic Force Microscopy Laboratory at IMEYMAT, has offered a new edition of the technical training course from 21 to 25 July 2025.

 

CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

IMEYMAT supports and sponsors conferences for materials scientists from around the world who are interested in and have the opportunity to visit our centre at the invitation of our researchers. The conference programme is also open to technologists from companies who can contribute an industrial perspective and insights into the demand for new products and services in the field of materials.

  • HARRY BITTER, Wageningen University (Netherlands). 5 March, 11 a.m., Conference Room, Department of Materials Science and IM and QI. ‘Development of Solid Sorbents and Dual Function Materials for CO2 Capture (and Conversion) from Air’. Professor Bitter is internationally recognised for his work in developing efficient processes and catalysts for the production of chemicals from biomass, contributing to a circular economy.

Award for the best final degree project in Engineering in the field of Materials, to encourage the training of new research professionals in the field of Materials Science and Technology in Spain.

SOCIEMAT FEMS Award for the best Master’s Thesis in Materials Science, to highlight the talent of the most outstanding Master’s students across Europe.

SOCIEMAT MATERPLAT Award for young innovators in Materials, recognising the best Master’s Thesis related to the development of Advanced Materials and Nanomaterials and their manufacturing processes with industrial applications.

IMEYMAT has sponsored the Award for the best contribution at the WOCSDICE-EXMATEC 2025 conferences on semiconductors of the future. held in Cadiz in June 2025. The winner was Ana Sofía Sousa, from the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, for her work entitled “Deep-UV photodetectors based on Gallium Oxide thin films”.
Nine PhD students from IMEYMAT have received grants to enrol in the UCA 2025 International Summer School held between 14 and 18 July.
Four students from IMEYMAT have received grants to attend this conference held in Cadiz on the semiconductors that society needs for the future.
